Melinda Clarke will join The Vampire Diaries and has been cast as Matt and Vicki’s absentee mother, Kelly Donovan. The actress will appear for at least 3 episodes starting in March.

Also contrary to what the imdb episode recap page said (it has been removed) regarding the upcoming January 21st ep – Elena will NOT transition to a vampire.

Nina Dobrev (Elena/Katherine) and Ian Somerhalder (Damon) will have an entire episode centered around them – no Paul Wesley (Stefan).

Damon and Elena are on! The road, anyway. As I teased a few weeks back, the unlikely pair will be taking a road trip (against her will) and it will lead to the blossoming of the full-fledged love triangle, with the first glimmers of a possible Damon and Elena pairing. “It’s not a love triangle with only two people and,” Nina says. “And now that the necklace is off, she’s very vulnerable. In the next episodes we’re going to see there’s going to be a lot of Damon and Elena.”

Now let me just say how happy I am that rumor about Elena becoming a vampire in the middle of the first season was false. I know it happens in the books, but it would really put a wrinkle in where the show could go from there.

I really hope that the writers give Wesley something meatier to work with. Let Stefan cut loose a bit – Damon deserves a butt kicking – old school vampire style! Less brooding please!
